Red Dao Herbal Baths:
The Red Dao Herbal Bath has its roots in a quaint mountain town in northeast Vietnam. This traditional remedy originates from the Red Dao ethnic group in Sapa, Vietnam. The herbal bath solution is created from entirely natural herbs, promoting relaxation and detoxification. In Red Dao communities, herbal baths aid in recovering from fatigue, easing muscle aches, and enhancing the immune system. In contemporary wellness practices, herbal baths merge hydrotherapy and aromatherapy to create deep relaxation.
Red Dao baths have many ingredients, including rare plants. Commonly used ingredients are elderberry, balm, fig leaves, wild pepper leaves, bur-reed, tropical dogwood, and cinnamon. Stems and leaves are chopped, dried in the sun, and boiled for hours over a fire to produce a sweet-smelling, wine-red mixture. It’s not just what goes into the tub that matters: the tub also plays a role. At Sapa Spa our soaking tubs are hand made from 100% copper. Copper is antibacterial and is one of the best thermal conductors in the world.
Red Dao baths are set up in small, enclosed rooms so that the fragrant steam from the bath can be inhaled and enjoyed by the bather. Baths typically run between 103 degrees Fahrenheit to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The bather has the option to add more cold or hot water throughout the bath. Baths are 30 minutes in duration. We also offer a more concentrated version of the Red Dao herbal baths, which can be used as a foot bath option.
Finally, there is nothing left to do but sink into the steaming water and relax. You might like to use a scooper to pour warm water over your back and shoulders, scrub your skin with a washcloth, or simply lie back and feel the bath work its magic. After your soak, we recommend sitting down for 5 - 10 minutes before moving to your next service or leaving. Make sure to hydrate during and after your session. It is not necessary to shower right after the bath.
